Campaspe Shire Council will advertise Jason Russell's chief executive position.
Council made the decision at a special meeting last week. Mr Russell’s contract expires in May.
Mayor Adrian Weston said under the Local Government Act (the Act) the council was responsible for the appointment of the CEO.
“The council has decided to advertise the position and will follow the statutory advertising and appointment process outlined in the Act,” he said.
“The decision to test the market will ensure council has the most appropriate person to continue leading the organisation to meet its strategic objectives and community vision.
“A recruitment company will be appointed to assist council with this critical task.
“Once the process has been completed, the community will be notified of the outcome.”
The current four-year contract expires on May 12 and Mr Russell has been advised of council’s decision.
