Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett said the statewide operation Drink Drive 1 would see an increased police presence on the roads, in the hope it would change driver behaviour.
‘‘We will be targeting drink driving, fatigue, restraints, distracted driving and speeding,’’ he said.
‘‘Inattention, not driving to the conditions, texting, intoxication and speed all contribute significantly to road trauma.
‘‘It’s not always about issuing tickets, but engaging with drivers to modify their behaviour.
‘‘It could be the stop that wakes them up or stops them from having a crash 100m down the road.’’
