The proposal is for a fenced, landscaped area adjacent to the old trotting track section of the reserve.
While it is still in the initial planning stages, council is seeking the community’s thoughts on what the park should entail so concept plans and cost estimates can be delivered.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to tell us what they’d love to have available for their four-legged companions,” MRC mayor Chris Bilkey said.
“The new off-leash area will provide pet owners with a space where their dogs can run freely and exercise without being on a lead — which was a priority identified by the community in the Rec Reserve master plan.
“This consultation process is about the community telling us what they’d love to see, so I’d encourage people to get involved.’’
This proposal is thanks to funding received via round two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Residents are encouraged to visit council’s website at murrayriver.nsw.gov.au/council/news/current-projects for information on providing a submission, along with a site plan showing the location of the proposed fenced off-leash area.
Written submissions and ideas should be received by Friday, March 22.
Council will also be hosting a workshop evening on March 14 at 5.30pm at the old Sports Club Building at Moama Recreation Reserve.
The off leash project forms part of Zone 3 in Moama Recreation Reserve’s adopted master plan.
Zone 3 includes the playground, landscape gardens and open space areas to the west of the Botanic Gardens.
