Hunt for hit-run motorcyclist

POLICE are still looking for a motorcyclist after a hit and run in Echuca on Sunday.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said yesterday the male pedestrian who was hit remained in a critical condition with head injuries at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

‘‘So far, one man has been interviewed by Major Collisions Investigation Unit detectives but has since been released pending further inquiries,’’ the spokesperson said.

Investigators were told the pedestrian was on the Campaspe River walking track between McKenzie St and Campaspe Esplanade when he was struck by a motorcycle about 12.15am.

The injured man, in his 30s, was triaged at Echuca hospital before being airlifted to the Royal Melbourne with life-threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist, who was believed to be speeding, also fell to the ground and a nearby witnesses came to help both men but the motorcyclist got back on his bike and fled the scene toward Campaspe Esplanade.
