Tania Walker, 35, appeared in custody via videolink at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with one count of child homicide.
Her then defacto, Daniel Simmons, 44, has been charged with the same offence.
Walker was expected to apply for bail but she withdrew her application at the last moment.
Magistrate Dr Michael King questioned Walker over her decision.
‘‘That’s right,’’ she answered.
Representing Walker, lawyer Kate Freshwater said it was her client’s first time in custody.
Dr King remanded Walker in custody to appear in the same court on June 12 for a committal mention.
Simmons will also appear on that date.
The pair was arrested in Echuca on Tuesday after Homicide Squad detectives made a breakthrough in their cold case investigation into the death of Angela Bannister.
