MOTORISTS are advised that Kerang-Leitchville Road will be impacted by the works to replace Sampson’s Bridge.
Road works will start later this month with the bridge to be out of use for about eight weeks.
Signage advising of the pending closure will be located either side of the bridge, with detours to be put in place when the replacement of the bridge — which has spanned Pyramid Creek for the past five decades — begins.
‘‘Sampson’s Bridge is an important transport route for the area and the region, particularly the dairy and agriculture sector, providing a vital interstate and intrastate transport link, including to New South Wales and the Victorian regional centres of Swan Hill, Mildura, Echuca and Shepparton,’’ Gannawarra Shire Council’s director of infrastructure and development Geoff Rollinson said.
‘‘We have found the Sampson’s Bridge route is increasingly being used to transport heavier loads than in the past, which has put pressure on the current structure.’’
The bridge replacement project is being supported by $471,350 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
