Even then, that’s not the half of what this store has to offer.
Sue and Ian Daldy have been in the business for almost 20 years and they’ve seen a lot of change in that time.
“We’ve just taken it from something that used to be very small around in Nish St and built it up to what it is and what it’s remained for this amount of time,” Sue said.
Before buying their own shop, Sue had previously worked for friends in the same field.
“I worked at Dollar Curtains and Blinds in Shepparton and saw that this franchise was up for sale and had been for a long time,” she said.
“Ian and I knew we wanted to move over here from Kialla, bring our family and have a bit of a lifestyle change, and so we did.”
As well as this, Sue has a thing for the materials.
“I just love fabrics, the textures… You’ve got to be passionate about it because it’s not an easy business to be in by any means,” she said.
“You’re dealing with something very, very personal. You’re dealing with people’s emotions, their expectations and their perceptions… It’s not our home, we can offer advice, but it ends up being their choice in the end.”
Sue puts a lot of thought and consideration into what and where things are displayed in the shop, with the front of the business dedicated to accessories and décor.
She travels to Melbourne and hand picks the products she believes will add something special to someone’s home.
Obligation free measure and quotes in home are available or you can bring your measurements in store for the team to sort out the rest. They also offer to install your new additions, but understand there are handymen and women out there who know how to do it themselves.
They also cater for your outdoor needs with shutters, roller doors, awnings and so much more.
Being in town for such a long time, Sue is passionate about shopping locally.
“It’s so vital to shop locally,” she said.
“We employ people’s grandsons or aunts and uncles. There are so many blinds suppliers in town and awnings suppliers, so there’s no reason not to shop locally.
“If you shop online you don’t get that feel, you don’t get that tactile feel of what it’s going to be. And by doing that we can’t employ local people if we don’t have a business to run.”
New stock comes in every fortnight, but don’t fret, Sue and the team are happy to dig out old stock if it’s available so you can have the best of both worlds.
Dollar Curtains and Blinds is open at 286 Hare St from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am until noon on Saturdays.
