Destructive criminals stole two cars from Kyabram on Friday night before going on a vandalism spree across the twin towns that night and overnight Saturday — doing burn-outs on nature strips, lawns and golf greens, ploughing down trees at several businesses and leaving skid marks and almost wiping out houses in an estate.
One of the cars — a silver Ford station wagon — was left abandoned at the old Moama Sports Club car park where it was found it at 8am Saturday.
The man who found it called the police but the car had not been reported stolen so it was left there; allowing the offenders to jump into it again and wreak more havoc that night.
The Rich River Golf Club course, Three Black Sheep, Lakeview Estate and Moama beach were some of the places targeted, as well as Trophyman Giftware and Engraving and Next Level gym in Echuca.
Some businesses are reporting thousands of dollars' in damage while countless residents are taking to Facebook to report other incidents.
On Saturday night, Laura Mulraney wrote a man driving a white Ford wagon hit her son from behind at the Echuca-Moama bridge, making him ‘‘spin out of control’’ before driving off.
‘‘I hope your car blows up and I never cross your path for your sake,’’ she wrote.
She said her son was okay, but very shaken.
Joanne Mason also posted a message saying a woman was walking in Moama at 11.30pm Saturday when ‘‘a car drove past and sprayed her with a fire extinguisher’’.
Echuca and Moama police are investigating and urge anyone with information to contact them on 5483 1500 (Echuca), 5482 0099 (Moama) or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
