CLRS chief executive Suzanna Barry and Opening Doors ambassadors were on site on Thursday to celebrate the launch of the third Opening Doors Project in the twin towns.
Ms Barry said the house and two units at 33 Maiden St Moama will provide supported independent living for five people with disabilities.
‘‘With Minor St and Eyre St Echuca projects it has been exceptional,’’ she said.
Ms Barry said the widespread support for CLRS’s projects has been outstanding since the first block of land was purchased on Minor St way back in 2011.
‘‘We have had a huge community response for the Opening Doors Project and we have 160 people taking part in this year’s Johnno’s Run, again raising funds for the Opening Doors Project,’’ she said. ‘‘We’ve had a number of community events, including our successful annual fundraising dinner, and our team has been busy with grant applications and we also receive funding in the form of specialist disability accommodation packages through the NDIS.’’
CLRS fundraising co-ordinator Dave Callanan said construction by AV Builders could be finished as soon as November this year.
‘‘It’s a sensational project and it’s going to be a great addition to our local community,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s all about that ownership aspect, everyone who fundraises tells me about how they like the fact that it’s local and that they’re doing things for people in their town and it’s a remarkable thing.
‘‘It never stops, people continue to put efforts in and put their hand in their pockets and help. And once they can see that this is a reality then they’ll be able to say with pride ‘we did something to help that’.’’
