Which — when it is complete — is expected to create clear separate entries of the Echuca Court from the council offices and address serious safety issues held by the council and the community.
At the moment the two share the facility on Heygarth St but councillors officially approved the almost $5 million upgrade at the council meeting recently.
Council also authorised the acting chief executive Ray Burton to negotiate and enter into a capital grant arrangement with Court Services Victoria for the construction of the new entry and customer service reception area, function space and amenities.
The upgrade will also include safety and security improvements for court users, including separate waiting areas, increased interview room capacity, enhanced conferencing and hearing facilities, and improvements to the entryway to the court for people in custody.
