Avenel Cemetery has a new storage shed thanks to funding from Strathbogie Shire Council and Bendigo Bank.

Cemetery Trust secretary Joyce White said the trust was extremely thankful for $1000 from Strathbogie Shire and $3412 from Bendigo Bank Nagambie.

‘‘Much of the cemetery is funded by grants like these and it makes a big difference to what we can do,’’ she said.

‘‘The shire and the bank are big supporters of ours and we can’t thank them enough.’’

Bendigo Bank Nagambie manager Michael Prowse said it was customers that allowed the bank to fund projects.

‘‘This is an important community asset and we are pleased we could be part of it,’’ he said.

‘‘We look forward to working with the cemetery trust in the future.’’

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said the work of the cemetery trust was vitally important.

‘‘It’s great to see the trust combine the funding from the shire with money from the bank to create a great community asset,’’ she said.

‘‘We love to see council funding helping in the community and that’s exactly what this is doing.’’
