After losing their opening round of the Kyabram District League to ladder leaders Tallygaroopna, the Lakers have taken all in their path to sit at 8-1 midway through the season.
And they’ve been doing it in style too.
Following their 98-point win over Stanhope in round 10, Nagambie decimated Shepparton East by 135 points on foreign soil on Saturday.
It’s the Lakers’ third win with a 100-plus margin this season.
With both teams battling hard in the opening 30 minutes, the Lakers kicked in to gear to slot nine unanswered goals in the second term against the Eagles, before running up the margin with seven majors in the final term.
Nagambie trio Nathan Fothergill, Dan Fitzpatrick and Jonathan Moore all starred down forward with four goals each while Mitch Sanderson and Blake Fothergill were named best on ground.
The Lakers’ eighth win of the season sees the club in outright second in the competition with eight rounds to play, and while anything can happen come September time, it’s looking like a two-horse race between Nagambie and ladder leaders Tallygaroopna for the minor and major premiership at the moment.
Nagambie have two pressure games against top six sides Merrigum and Lancaster in the next month of matches to plan for.
But really, it’s the round 17 rematch against Tallygaroopna in August that will mean the most to the Lakers.
