Bucking bulls in action

By Madeleine Caccianiga

The Professional Bull Riders major league tour will return for one huge night at Shepparton Showgrounds tomorrow.

This year’s Monster Energy Tour Shepparton Invitational round of competition will showcase accomplished national bull riders alongside Brazilian champions Robson Guedes and Flavio Silva, who will make their Australian tour debut in the Goulburn Valley.

PBR general manager Glen Young said bull riding was a sport that consisted of two great athletes — the rider and the bull.

‘‘It is like any sport where you see two great teams or two great athletes going head to head, it is exciting to watch. In this sport, riders need to qualify to compete and so do the bulls; we are always aiming to ensure that fans witness the best match-ups between man and bull this sport can deliver,’’ he said.

Tomorrow’s event will consist of world finals qualifiers, Australian champions, state champions, circuit champions as well as rising stars.

Mr Young said the event would be more than just a standard bull-riding event, including bird’s eye views of the action from athletes’ helmet cameras and close-to-the-action seats from a purpose-built mobile stadium.

‘‘The mega screen allows us to show replays of each ride as well as take the audiences behind the scenes with multiple camera angles,’’ he said.

The event will be broadcast live to PBR fans across the world on the western sports digital broadcast platform, Ride Pass.

PBR operations and production manager Michael Simpson was at Shepparton Showgrounds yesterday setting up for the big event.

‘‘I explain it like going to see a band, they’ll be food and entertainment, we have a live band and bar, we have a bucking bull and an after party for the people who want to stay on and celebrate our time in Shepparton,’’ Mr Simpson said.

Gates open at 4pm for a 6pm start at the Shepparton Showgrounds on High St tomorrow. Tickets are available at PBRAShep.oztix.com.au
