Seymour had the better of the cross-town derby in the division seven Goulburn Valley Bowls Division weekend pennant decider on Saturday.
Tackling Seymour VRI on the biggest day of the season at Dookie Bowling Club, Seymour was in control for most of the contest before eventually snaring a 10-shot victory.
‘‘It was a good win over our local rivals VRI,’’ Seymour president Greg Quillinan said.
‘‘(We) were in front all day, but there were still some anxious moments late.
‘‘The green was well prepared and we were very pleased with it, it bowled very well.
‘‘We also had three new bowlers to the pennant side this year and they did us proud in their first season.
‘‘It was certainly a good day and we also had division five in the grand final and they only lost by a couple of shots, so we were quite pleased with the results overall.’’
Derek Blakeman’s Seymour rink secured a 25-19 victory on the day, while teammate Vin Hall gave his side a clean-sweep with a 23-19 result in the overall 48-38 triumph.
Discussions on whether Seymour will take the opportunity to step up a division after Saturday’s success will be had throughout the off-season, with division six a three-rink competition compared to division seven’s two-rink setup.
