Lockington bowls

THE club held a successful women’s three-bowl triples tournament on Friday attracting 78 bowlers from City of Echuca, Cohuna Golf, Deniliquin, Dingee, Elmore, Inglewood, Kyabram, Pyramid Hill, Mathoura, Moama, Rich River, Rochester and Tongala.

Ladies president Kath Palmer and tournament secretary Annie Haines welcomed all bowlers and hoped they enjoyed the company and true-running greens.

At the completion of the three games, two teams were undefeated.

A Tongala trio comprising Ros Kellett, Jan Golds and Dot Parkinson (s) were successful scoring 75 points to win the major trophies.

The margin was narrow ahead of Marjorie Cowley, Pam Limbrick and Beryl Murray (s) of Mathoura on 74 points.

On Tuesday, September 11 the women played rinks for the weekly social bowls. The winning team was Kathryn Tibbs, Joy Weller, Lorraine Appleby and Kath Palmer (s).

A composite team competed in the recent Mathoura Fours tournament and managed to bring home the runner-up trophy.

The team consisted of Norma Thomas, Annie Haines, Margaret Davis and Kath Palmer (s).

The club will begin its popular Friday night barbecue and practice sessions this week.

Social bowls will be played on Saturdays prior to the CVBD Pennant, starting at 1pm. All welcome, casual wear.

Entries are invited for the 50th running of the prestigious Waterwheel Classic fours to be held on Sunday, October 21, from 9.30am.

Echuca Senior Citizens

WINNERS from last week were Maurie Orchard (skip), Kelly Orchard and Hazel O’Dwyer.

Runners-up were Bob Pascoe (skip), Dulcie Horkings and Mathew Leahy.

City of Echuca

CONGRATULATIONS to Leica Roney and Michelle Cunnington on winning the Bendigo Ladies Classic Pairs event on the weekend.

In a competitive field, Leica and Michelle were the only six-game winners of the competition. A mighty effort, ladies.

The team of Joan Moss, Helen Pitts, Marie Malone and Ros Neil were successful in winning the Mathoura medley tournament last week.

Pennant players for midweek and weekend are reminded to check the pennant noticeboard for the latest information.

Midweek players have a practice match on Friday against Rich River, commencing at 10am at Echuca.

Sunday will see a practice game between midweek and weekend pennant players. This will also commence at 10am and will be followed by a barbecue.

Other bowls results saw the mixed triples on Monday the 10th go to Col Berryman, John Simpson and Mike Meyer. Runners-up were Eddie Blampied, Anna Meyer and Gayle Kerr.

The men’s pairs on Thursday went to Daryl Wood and Noel West, with John Elliott and John Dignan runners-up.

Mixed social bowls on Saturday went to Jim Aitken, Belinda Chong and Stephen Nolan, with John Blair, June Clifford, Max Bennett and Daryl La Velle runners-up.

Rich River

JACKPOT pairs from Wednesday the 12th was won by Eugene Xodo and Bob Bartlett. Runners-up were Bill McEwan and Rob Homefield.

Bowlers are reminded that entries for the club’s minor singles close on Wednesday, September 27, a list is on the noticeboard.

Round one is to be played before October 14.

Rich River’s season commenced with an enjoyable lunch in the bistro, followed by social bowls. Life members Joy and Barry Kelly delivered the first jack and bowl to declare the season open.

Ladies social bowls is played on Tuesdays at 1pm for the months of September and October, and the men’s jackpot pairs played on Wednesdays from 12.30pm. Contact the club to register your interest.

A pennant practice match for midweek players will be held at Echuca on Friday at 10am.

On Tuesday, Moama Pharmacy will sponsor a friendship day commencing at 1pm. All members are encouraged to bring a friend.

INDOOR bowls results from the previous week saw 23 players take part in three games of 10 ends.

Winners on 53 points were Pamela Reyment (s), Maurie Orchard, Bev Healey and June Simpson.

Runners-up with 37 points were Peter Pavone (s), Pamela Kerr, Margaret Green and Margaret McFadzean.

CVBD

THE Over-60 CVBD men’s state singles will be played at the City of Echuca Bowls Club.

Three rounds will be played on Tuesday, and the semi-finals and final will be played on Friday the 28th.

A complete draw is available on the CVBD website and clubs will display it also.

Moama Shots Up

OUTDOOR bowls from the previous week saw Tuesday’s Alby Matthews triples go to Michael Bakof, Alex McQuarrie and Greg Pettigrove.

Runners-up were John Bamford, Rod Allen and Norm Hodge.

Thursday’s men’s pairs winners were Glen Dorward and Jim Hogan. Runners-up were Ian Roberts-Gay and Kevin Connolly.

Sunday’s mixed pairs was won by Greg Chandler and Bob Gills. Runners-up were Joseph Bell and Michael Bakof.
