THE women played triples at the weekly social bowls on Tuesday in ideal conditions.
The winning trio included Mary Thomas, Lorraine Appleby and Pauline Humbert (skip) in a fine display of bowls from all concerned.
In the CVBD weekend pennant semi-finals on Saturday our club’s division four finished second to the stronger Mathoura combination losing 52-81 with only one rink win.
Neil Haines (s), John van den Bosch, Dave Thomas and Andrew Harris defeated T. Starkey 25-22 after surrendering a 15-6 lead in the early stages of play before holding stronger to win.
Steve Peter and Bill Musgrove’s rinks were under the pump most of the day but managed to improve the scoring late in the day.
Next week the division four team will play Moama in the preliminary final to be held at Rich River.
Moama just outlasted Rich River by two shots in the semi-final played at Lockington. Best of luck to division four.
The club hosted the semi-finals of division four and the division five finals. The club thanks the members involved in the catering and bar duties on the day.
On the previous Tuesday evening the club held the first of the three-night series of Sports Bowls, which attracted 24 bowlers and non-bowlers.
Everyone enjoyed the occasion and one could witness some untapped talent.
The winning team comprised Rob Fraser, Neville Sims, Andrew Harris (s) on two wins plus 17 shots ahead of Peter Eade, Amy Eade, Brian Kinnane (s) 2 wins +16 shots.
The night is one of enjoyment and good fun, roll up at 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start.
During the week members travelled to Elmore, Gunbower and Tongala to play bowls and returned home all the better for the experience gained.
In club competitions played in the week, Roly Head defeated a gallant Ken Main in an absorbing game in the Presidents trophy 21-up championship and will proceed to the next round. Don Isgro proved too consistent for Chris Stewart.
Congratulations to the premier teams in the CVBD midweek pennant competition. Division one to City of Echuca over Moama; division two to Moama over Rich River and division three to City of Echuca over Moama.
The Lockington Bowls Club was the venue for a special 90th birthday for club member Phil Collins on Sunday.
A large gathering of family, friends and associates assembled to celebrate the occasion.
On Sunday the Bendigo-Campaspe regional finals of the Champion of Champions was held at the Bendigo East Bowling Club.
Linda Harris (Deniliquin) represented the CVBD and was pitted against Kay Rowe (Eaglehawk). Rowe was able to pick up singles to win the match 25-16 with an all round consistent effort.
On rink three, Brent Reiner (City of Echuca) competed in a memorable game of bowls against Andrew Brown (Bendigo).
Little separated the two as they went end-for-end, shot-for-shot in a great spectacle. Reiner was drawing to the jack with regular monotony and gained a slight two-shot break only for Brown to pick up a double to level the scores.
Brown clinched the title 25-18.
On Friday evening the club had an enjoyable meal and practice session. The winning name called in the lucky members draw was a jubilant Ian Palmer.
Mathoura
WEEKEND pennant results from Saturday’s finals, played by Mathoura teams at Rich River, saw the division two side lose to Deniliquin 62-97.
In division four, Mathoura claimed an 81-52 shot win over Lockington.
Division two’s loss to Deniliquin has eliminated them from the finals, while division four won their preliminary final and have advanced to the grand final.
In the men’s 100-up handicap, M. Quor defeated B. McMillan and A. Murphy defeated F. Jacobite.
The list is on display at the bowls office for our two-bowl singles so please put your name on the list if you are going to play.
End of season camp is on the weekend of March 22.
The club will be hosting a final between division three Moama and Deniliquin RSL and in division five, Deniliquin RSL versus Elmore.
Mathoura’s two-bowl triples tournament will be held on May 14, 10am start. Three games of 16 ends, $60 per team.

City of Echuca
CONGRATULATIONS to the club’s midweek division one and three sides on winning grand finals on Friday.
Division one played their best bowls of the season to defeat Moama by 30 shots. All three rinks won in this match.
The division three side had a much closer match against Moama but, once again, finished strongly to win by 10 shots.
There was a mixed bag of results for the weekend teams competing in semi-finals on Saturday. The division two side played a great match against Moama to win by five shots, and secure a place in the grand final.
The results were not so good for divisions one and three who both lost, to Moama and Deniliquin RSL respectively.
Division three is out of the equation now, but division one will play Tongala in Saturday’s preliminary final at Rich River.
A memorial pairs tournament was played at the club on Sunday. This event was to remember past members who are no longer with us, and to pay tribute to their contribution to the club.
Gayle Kerr and Trevor Rickard won, while Heather Trotter and John O’Brien finished runners-up.
On Sunday, Brent Reiner competed in the regional champion of champions event at Bendigo East. In a high standard match, Brent eventually lost 25-18 to Andrew Brown from the Bendigo club.
Deniliquin’s Linda Harris also competed in the ladies event and lost 25-15 to Kaye Rowe from Eaglehawk.
Senior Citizens
INDOOR bowls results from the previous week saw winners in Bob Pascoe (skip) and Joan Hales. Runners-up were Miriam Pascoe (skip) and John Fatone.
Moama RSL
INDOOR bowls results from Monday saw 22 players take part in three games of 10 ends.
The winners on 51 points were Pamela Reyment (skip), Colin Hicks, and Dawn Beer. Runners-up with 43 points were Peter Pavone (skip), Rhys Jenkins, Bev Healey and June Simpson.
Consolation prizes went to Margaret Green, Ron Stranger and Liz Portwine.
