Stewart and Drill combined for a +8 score overall to win the Victorian 4BBB (four ball better ball) second qualifying round by eight shots.
The win means the Rich River partners have qualified for the 36-hole statewide final, to be held at the Sorrento Golf Course and Moonah Links Golf Course in mid-March.
Rich River Golf Club pro Steve Loader said the two ladies played well and will be in with a good chance come March’s state finals.
‘‘I think the two ladies will give it a good shake in the finals, to be honest,’’ he said.
And they weren’t the only locals to put on a show on their home course.
In the men’s section, Rich River members Graham Hodgson and Steve Presser finished runners-up with a +12 final score.
The two were just short of Kyabram’s Daryl Harrison and John Heywood, who finished with a +14.
Unfortunately for Presser and Hodgson, only the qualifying round’s winners progress to the state finals.
‘‘Hodgson and Presser have been having a really unlucky run of late, so they can’t qualify for the finals,’’ Loader said.
And in the mixed section, just behind eventual winners Biljana and John Krunic of Hepburn Springs, were Rich River’s Ann and Barry McPherson.
The McPhersons were also the unlucky pair to miss out on the state finals, as the Krunics won the qualifier by five shots.
Loader said members of the club always look forward to this time of the year, when there are many events on.
‘‘(The state qualifiers) certainly are an annual event for the club.
‘‘We had about 60 players there on Sunday, and it’s a big qualifying event across the state.
‘‘I think it’s more of a participation thing rather than competition in this case but as we’ve seen, some qualify for Sorrento and Moonah Links, which is a big deal,’’ he said.
Next up at Rich River is the Trainee Pro-Am in early February, before the Veterans tournament will be hosted in March, which is one of the club’s biggest of the year.
