With a number of local sides taking part, the night looks set to be a big one with more than $5000 prize money on offer.
Echuca Moama Apex Club’s Ben Hearn said the event was shaping up well.
‘‘We are getting pretty excited as we get closer,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve got a number of local clubs involved, but we are always looking to add more to that list.
‘‘It’s a pretty good opportunity for clubs to have a crack at the sprint and try to earn a bit of prize money.’’
The Gift, which is entering its second year, was created as an opportunity for Apex to bring the local football and netball communities together for some friendly competition before the season kicks off.
‘‘We liked the idea of having a community event all our football and netball clubs can be involved in,’’ Hearn said.
‘‘When the football and netball season starts, clubs become very inwardly focused. It becomes all about winning and how they perform, and that is to be expected, so the event provides the opportunity to have a bit of fun away from the sport itself.
‘‘It provides an opportunity for a bit of rivalry with the other local sides, but also to do it off the field in a family friendly environment which allows the whole community to be a part of it.’’
The event will not be limited to just the race.
‘‘We are hoping to add a few new activities this year,’’ Hearn said.
‘‘We are looking at a longest kick competition, a couple of relay races and a few more activities for the kids.
‘‘It’s not just about the sprint. This is about bringing the whole football and netball clubs and their families together and having a bit of fun.
“We love the family aspect of our clubs and we want to be able to bring all those families together.’’
