Representing the Inland Outriggers paddlers, the group performed admirable and achieved some excellent results at Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast recently in the nationals.
Without as much training under their belts as they would have liked, the group nevertheless travelled to compete to see how their own skills stood up against the best of the best in Australia.
World titles come around every two years and with the 2018 Tahiti tournament still fresh in some minds, this regatta was not for selection for any representative team.
In the V1 senior master women, Janine Carroll placed fourth. In V1 golden master women, Yvonne Stansfield paddled hard to nab the bronze medal.
In the OC6 turns races, many boats were disqualified for moving outside their lanes, so Inland Outriggers senior master women were thrilled to keep the boat in their own lane in the heat and reach the final.
In the final, the locals placed third with Stansfield steering at the helm. Yvonne also paddled with Koa Koi and won a gold medal in the 1000m turns in golden master women.
For the straight OC6 500m sprint, Inland took home third in the senior masters section.
Carroll achieved her first individual medal when she placed third in the OC1 senior master women, while Robyn Mandaradoni claimed her first individual final and came sixth overall.
Stansfield took home gold in the OC1 golden master women.
The Inland Outriggers were pleased with their results and are now starting to set in place both training and racing programs to be ready to qualify in February 2020.
Their goal is to represent Australia in Hawaii and do as well or better than they did in the Tahiti competition in 2018.
Inland Outriggers train on Tuesday and Thursday, from 6pm and Sunday morning at 9am at the Victoria Park boat ramp.
