A regional umpiring director will be appointed ahead of this season, a position that aims to change the face of the craft for the better in the Goulburn Valley and beyond.
The new member of the RAC will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the AFL National Umpire Plan across the region, bringing the importance of the entire umpiring fraternity to the fore in a way that has not been seen before in this area.
‘‘It’ll benefit every single male and female who plays football in this region,’’ Goulburn Valley Football Umpires Association president Andrew Moore said.
‘‘It’s a huge, huge development and one of the biggest things that’s happened for the umpires in our region.
‘‘Our umpiring stocks will hopefully improve, but also it will help with getting the knowledge of what umpiring is about to the general public and clubs as well, and it’s huge in that aspect.’’
The successful applicant for the position will become the face of umpiring in the Goulburn Murray region.
‘‘Obviously the development stuff is important, but it will also take a lot of pressure off our association in terms of the administration side of things too,’’ Moore said.
‘‘Once it’s up and running 100 per cent it will be fantastic, and even though it’s only a part-time position to start with, hopefully it will grow within a few years.
‘‘The association as a whole is really excited for the position and can’t wait to get it started.’’
AFL GM region general manager Jamie Macri was also looking forward to finding the perfect candidate for the new role.
‘‘We’re pretty excited because it’s something that has never happened in the region,’’ Macri said.
Applications for the role close on March 1 and should be directed to Macri at jamie.macri@afl.com.au or on 0407216719.
