Moama are going into 2019 in that exact position.
Tyler Jones and Rhys Archard will both be notable absentees from Moama’s side for 2019.
Jones heads to Leitchville-Gunbower, while Archard has given the game away.
‘‘They’re two pretty handy players,’’ Moama coach Luke Eldridge said.
‘‘We’ve lost a couple of guys, but those two were both keys in our side in 2018, so they’re huge losses.’’
And the stats well and truly support that.
Three members of Moama’s side in 2018 kicked more than 10 goals for the season.
Jones (31), Archard (38) and Angus Grigg (50) combined to kick 119 of the 187 goals kicked by Moama.
And their impact on the side goes beyond the big sticks.
‘‘We relied on those guys to not only kick goals for us, but on them running through our midfield. That makes them really hard roles to cover.’’
Moama has recruited well so far, though they have been open about their desire to retain and develop more local talent in coming seasons.
And that will start in 2019, as it won’t just be the recruits who will be looked to for an impact.
‘‘We have multiple guys who can play really solid football across the ground,’’ he said.
‘‘They showed signs when they did attack the game in 2018, but they will have to go further, which will be fantastic for our development.
‘‘We’ve already seen it on the track — they want to take that step and show the talent they have. They want to set the standard and play some really good football.
‘‘It’s going to be exciting to see what they can do, it will make us a more rounded side which is fantastic for the football club.’’
The club will begin their season against another young side desperate to prove how much they have grown in Tongala on April 6.
