As communities and sports change, the numbers around a club change as well.
And not every club will be able to overcome that.
Some of those clubs will merge, and hopefully retain some of their proud history in their new identity.
But not all can.
And that is a tragedy for those who cared deeply about their clubs.
Every sporting club has a story, and we want to tell them.
It is a regular occurrence in previous editions of the Riv to find stories about bowls clubs, golf clubs, tennis teams, and the pre-merger days of local football clubs Echuca United and LBU.
It’s something the pages of past issues are filled with.
But no one at the time could have predicted that these clubs would in the future no longer exist, so the history is incomplete at best.
The Riv wants to know as much information about any former Echuca-Moama sporting clubs that are no longer in operation.
But we need help to do it.
If you have any records, newspaper clippings, annual reports or memorabilia of a former sporting club, we would love to hear from you.
Even old stories of times spent competing at the clubs.
If you have any information on an Echuca sporting club that may no longer exist, please contact us at sport@riverineherald.com.au
