The twin town’s all abilities side will once again offer an Auskick program for players between 5 and 18 years old.
To show young members of the community what Auskick is about, the club will hold a come and try night on Wednesday, April 3 at the 208 Primary School oval from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
Rockets Auskick co-ordinator Ben Trevena said the evening will be a good opportunity to introduce new players to the program.
‘‘The evening will be sort of a round robin of different skills,’’ he said.
‘‘We will run through a few different skills, a bit of kicking and handballing just to show the young players what the game is about and how we do things at the Rockets.’’
Trevena, who became involved in the Rockets due to his son’s disability, said the club provided an opportunity to young people with disabilities they may not otherwise get.
‘‘It’s not as easy for these kids to get involved in things as you’d expect,’’ he said.
‘‘They can’t just go down to the local football club or netball club. They can’t just get involved in the same way as easily.
‘‘The Rockets are here to give everyone an opportunity to become involved in the club.
‘‘We don’t discriminate. We want to see as many people at our club and engaged in the sport they love as we possibly can.’’
Trevena also spoke of how rewarding assisting the club can be.
‘‘The look on these young people’s faces is enough for me,’’ he said.
‘‘Getting to see the smiles when they get to let themselves go and just enjoy what they are doing is incredible.’’
