What the coaches said

Echuca co-coach Andrew Walker: ‘‘It was a really pleasing victory for us. It was a hard fought win, the pressure from both sides was really high and that made for an exciting game of football. We were brutal in our attack, we never made it easy for them to get their hands on the football and that’s exactly what we wanted to see this year.

‘‘It really feels like the competition has evened up this season. It feels like all the sides have made a lot of ground so the season should be really even.’’

Seymour co-coach Jason Cole: ‘‘The competition has really evened out this season. You only need to look at Mooroopna winning and the Swans being competitive to know it is a lot closer.

‘‘We were able to battle it out for three quarters and stay in the match, but by the end the size of Echuca just beat us out. They have the advantage in terms of how they use their size to beat you in the contest and we couldn’t match it for four quarters.

‘‘Our ball use going forward isn’t perfect yet. We need to work on how we use the ball and not doing things like kicking down the line to contests as they (Echuca) were able to carve us up there.’’
