That proved to be the case for Leitchville-Gunbower’s netballers on Saturday against North Bendigo in the Heathcote District Football League.
Last week, the Bombers were left heartbroken in a close game but this time they came out victors by two goals.
Unlike the game against Mount Pleasant, the home side held their nerves at the crucial times as they picked up their first four points of the season.
‘‘It’s good that the girls took things away from last week’s game,’’ coach Sammi Drover said.
‘‘Unlike last week, we held our never and I felt like we were in control of the situation. We were much cleaner when it counted.’’
The result came off the back of a consistent team performance.
‘‘Our defence all across the court was the best it has been,’’ Drover said.
‘‘Not one of the opposition players was given an easy pass.’’
Limiting the opportunities of North Bendigo’s goal shooters was always going to be a key.
Given the height advantage the visitors had it that department, meant it was a strong focus in training during the week according to Drover.
‘‘We tried a few different things and we’re lucky it worked,’’ she said.
‘‘If it wasn’t for the girls commitment, we may well have lost this game.’’
A slip up in performance after half-time allowed North Bendigo back into the match heading into the last change.
But in the final quarter the Bombers responded to will their way to victory.
‘‘The girls did extremely well to fight back,’’ Drover said.
‘‘After falling behind they could have easily dropped their heads but they kept going.
‘‘It’s a credit to how much belief they have in each other.’’
Next up is a trip to take on Elmore.
