Following a disappointing loss to Katunga last time out, the Timbercutters were intent on bouncing back in style — and unfortunately for Blighty they were certainly in the mood.
Once the game had settled, Mathoura dictated the tempo of the match as they continued to build their lead at each break, running out 11-goal winners.
‘‘We spoke about wanting to push on each quarter and we managed to do that,’’ coach Rohan Starkey said.
‘‘The girls worked hard for the entire match and deserved the reward.’’
The defensive intent of wing defence Liv Brownfield — who put in a best on court performance — and goalkeeper Shannon Mills led the way for the home side as they secured their second win of the year.
‘‘Liv caused plenty of turnovers at critical times,’’ Starkey said.
‘‘But her drive through mid-court was just as important for our attackers.
‘‘It was obvious from the outset, Shannon was back in her comfort zone.
‘‘The way she intercepted the ball and made stops was a pleasure to watch.’’
At the other end of the court, the Timbercutters displayed more composure than recent weeks, converting chances in the game’s big moments.
Centre Casey Parsons was a big factor in the scoring opportunities her side created, feeding the shooters throughout the game.
‘‘Her work rate was extremely high all day,’’ Starkey explained.
‘‘The way she passed the ball, gave our shooters the best possible chance to score.’’
Next up for the Timbercutters is a home game against Berrigan, who have shown they can match it with the top sides in 2019.
‘‘We will have to improve again,’’ Starkey said.
‘‘But our confidence is up and we are up for any challenge.’’
