Last week against Katunga, the Timbercutters allowed their opposition back into the game but managed to hold on by one-point.
This week, they weren’t as fortunate as Blighty overcame a nine-point half-time deficit to run out 30-point winners.
And it’s an issue which coach Darcy Robinson is struggling to find an answer for.
‘‘Games are never going to be won by playing one half of footy,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s becoming a big problem that is hurting how our season is shaping.
‘‘The loss doesn’t sit well when you’re expected to win a game.
‘‘We got beaten in areas of the game which we pride ourselves on.’’
From the beginning of the season, Robinson has made it clear that 2019 is all about development for his side.
Unfortunately, Saturday’s result proved that they could be forced to learn the hard way.
‘‘It’s a massive learning curve for a lot of our guys,’’ he said.
‘‘Once we’ve gone into our shell, we’re struggling to come back out of it.
‘‘As a team, our next step is making sure we have the confidence to swing the momentum back our way.’’
Despite the frustrations the Timbercutters experienced, there was still plenty of positives to take away from the game.
John McGowan was a force down back, while Clay Poidevin delivered his best performance of the season.
While it was also a special day for Tom Crilly who was handed his senior debut.
‘‘We’re not going to sit and dwell on the negatives,’’ Robinson said.
‘‘Some boys just had a down day and that is going to happen.
‘‘John and Clay are developing really nicely and are becoming key parts of our side.
‘‘Tom did a terrific job, especially when our backs were up against the wall.’’
The Timbercutters will look to bounce back next weekend when they host Berrigan.
