Leitchville Gunbower’s victory against White Hills moved the side to a 4-4 record, vaulting them into the competition’s top five.
As the season hits the halfway point, the importance of every win is becoming more and more clear.
‘‘The year doesn’t get any easier as it goes on,’’ coach Danny Teskera said.
‘‘The reality is if we lost this game, it would have put us in a pretty dubious position in terms of making it to the finals.
‘‘It was a good opposition on Saturday, we have more good sides coming up, so these wins at this point in the season are incredibly important for our chances later in the year.’’
With Jack Dye adding six majors to his season tally (now 21 in four matches) and Daniel Coates kicking four, LG’s early season woes in front of the big sticks are starting to be put behind them.
‘‘We started off pretty slowly, but once we got into a rhythm we were able to kick straight and make an impact,’’ Teskera said.
‘‘We started to really come alive in the match midway through the second quarter and were able to pull ourselves back into the match.
‘‘We locked the scores up at half time, and I feel we brought our A game into the second half. Being able to put the scoreboard pressure on with six goals in the quarter really boosted the side and led to a really important win for the club.’’
While the win takes the Bombers into the five, there isn’t much room for error if they want to stay there.
They will clash with Mount Pleasant on Saturday, a side that has dropped just two matches for the season so far — though one was against the Bombers in round one.
‘‘They’re a very good side,’’ Teskera said.
‘‘They’ve been solid all year, but we had a good win against them earlier this season, which will give us a bit of confidence. It’s an important match, so we will be working hard to get the chocolates.’’
