A tough game was expected, and it definitely delivered.
With both teams desperate for a win, it was a case of which team was able to put together a better four quarter effort, with the young Magpies coming out victorious.
The defence stood tall all day while there were some fantastic individual efforts throughout the entire day.
Noah Langborne led from the front all day, while both Bailey Miller and Kobe Hunter played their best games for the year and Jobe Shanahan worked tirelessly.
We look forward to keeping this momentum rolling for the rest of the season.
GCJFL — Moama 4.2.26 lt. Kyabram 6.12.48
A beautiful winter’s Sunday at Moama, greeted the Kyabram and Moama teams.
As the conditions dried out this made for a close and entertaining game.
Moama started well with Tom Boylan-Roberts dominating in the ruck and pushing forward, creating an early goal for Moama, through Curtis Wood.
Kyabram fought back and took a couple of goals lead into the first break.
The second quarter was Moama’s best, with Sam Hooppell and Jett Keam winning the hard ball and setting up lots of forward plays.
Maisyn Douglas, Jack Pell and Archie Peat were strong in the middle and creative around the ground.
Arj Whelan, Harry Limbrick, Oscar Richards and Katie Shanon were solid in defence holding up many of Kyabram’s forward movements, enabling the sides to go into the main break level pegging.
Early in the third quarter Moama suffered a couple of key injuries and were reduced to the bare 18.
Kyabram seized on this and kicked away to a three-goal lead.
To Moama’s credit all players across the ground lifted, increasing their tackling pressure and desire to get in first for the ball.
The last quarter was a real arm wrestle with neither side conceding a goal.
The backline was led brilliantly by some strong marking from Liam Hearn and ferocious attack on the ball and leadership shown by vice captain Archie Connors.
Despite going down to Kyabram it was another big week of improvement from the young Moama team, with teamwork and enjoyment the highlights of the day.
