Despite being level at half-time with Tatura on Sunday, the division one men’s team felt like they were well in control.
Their thoughts certainly proved to be true as they scored four times in the second half to romp to a 5-1 victory to maintain top spot on the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League ladder.
‘‘The second half performance is as well as we’ve played all season,’’ club president Darryl Brown said.
‘‘We dominated possession and created plenty of opportunities. On another day we could have quite easily scored a few more.
‘‘On the sidelines, you could sense the boys felt like they were always on top of their opposition.’’
While victory over fourth placed Tatura was important for the men’s side, next week’s challenge against Strathdale is arguably their biggest of the season.
‘‘We feel like Strathdale are our biggest danger this season,’’ Brown said.
‘‘They’re coming off a draw with Shepparton South so they’ll certainly be fired up to take three points away from home.’’
The Border Raiders may be without Lachlan Arkinstall who suffered an ankle injury against Tatura.
In the women’s game, an early goal from Isabella Gow proved to be the difference as the Border Raiders held on for a 1-0 win.
Despite picking up the three points, it proved to be another week of frustration in front of goal as the visitors missed several big chances to add to the scoreline.
‘‘I’m glad we are creating opportunities, but we need to be finishing them,’’ Brown said.
‘‘If we can tidy up our passing, we’re going to create much simpler opportunities for ourselves.
‘‘Hopefully that occurs in the coming weeks.’’
The game against Strathdale will be held on Saturday at Jack Eddy Oval with the women’s game from 11am.
■It took both teams a little while to settle into the division two men’s game.
Once the ball was played along the deck the match started to heat up.
With both teams having chances in the first half, Tatura took their chance to grab a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The Raiders rallied at half-time and managed to get back on level terms through an own goal.
Unfortunately, the boys ran out of legs due to injuries and Tatura were too strong in the final stages scoring a match winning goal.
