Sportstar January 2018 nominees

By Riverine Herald

Congratulations to cricketer Todd Murphy, tennis player Isabella Crossman and women's footballer Kate Dixon who are our 2018 Sportstar nominees for January.

After his dominant performances in 2017, Murphy started his 2018 in the national spotlight.
Murphy made his way to the National Under 19 Championships, representing the Cricket Australia
XI, an incredible achievement for a player who was just months ago in the Under 17 National Carnival.
The CAXI team fell to NSW in the final, and while this was not Murphy’s best tournament as an individual, the achievement of selection continues to show that Murphy is one the best young players in the country.

The Echuca young gun is continuing to make waves in the tennis world.
Crossman started the year with two major tournament victories, claiming the 2018 Goulburn Valley Junior Tournament after being seeded eight, knocking off the one and two seeds en route to victory.
She followed this up with victory at the Tennis Victoria 62nd Inter Regional representing Loddon Campaspe.
Semi-finals at the 2018 Hume Tennis and Community Centre JT Silver and the Tennis Australia 12s National Camp also followed, as did an invitation to the Tennis Australia’s 2018 Junior Development Team Victoria.

After a dominant year of football for Echuca’s women’s side in their inaugural season, all eyes were on Dixon for a possible stint in VFLW.
Dixon was approached with the opportunity to trial with the Richmond Football Club for this season’s VFLW, with the prospect of AFLW selection when the Tigers enter the competition next season also on the horizon.
After a strong performance as part of the trials, it was announced in January that Dixon would be a part of the Tigers VFLW setup this season.
