Congratulations to basketballer Maia Roberts and runner Brady Threlfall who are our February Sportstar nominees.
February was a big month for Maia.
The month began with representing the Victorian Bushrangers under 14 girls at the Albury Cup.
Maia’s performance saw her selected to the New Zealand Cup tour, which will take place across the Tasman at Easter time.
She followed this up by averaging 9.8 points as the Echuca Pirates under 14 side went undefeated to win the Benalla Basketball Tournament, a victory that sees the team head to the Country Championships in April.
The side went through three regular tournament games without suffering a loss, before winning a semi-final against Swan Hill and the grand final against Wangaratta, where the team would claim a 22 point win.
Brady is never far away from the spotlight with his running.
The marathon runner took on the Nobeoka marathon in Japan, producing his second best time ever.
Running against mostly professional runners, Brady ran in a time of 2.21:41.
The time is just over two minutes away from the golden number of 2:19:00 – the time required for an athlete to qualify for the marathon in the Commonwealth Games.
And when you ask Brady, getting to this magic time is still the goal.
The highlight for Brady was the rock star treatment, being asked for photos and being interviewed on television as a result of being the Australian running in the race.
