Congratulations to karter Fletcher Harris and outrigger Yvonne Stansfield who are 2018 Sportstar of the Year July nominees.
The Victorian state karting title is back where it belongs, in the hands of 13-year-old Fletcher Harris.
The prodigy has claimed the KA4 Junior Light championship for Victoria. It was a huge achievement for Harris, who has now claimed two titles in three years, as well as a second- place finish in the 2017 season.
And it’s an accolade that once again sees him nominated for Sportstar.
With the National Karting Championships and a trip to Italy in October on the horizon, it’s unlikely we have heard the last of Fletcher Harris for 2019.
‘‘Last year I missed a few races and ended up finishing second, so I’m pretty happy to have it back again.’’
Yvonne Stansfield is a world champion. Returning to Echuca recently she held her head high, sporting the green and gold, after winning an individual gold at the IVF Va’a World Championships in the Elite Master 60 women V1 500m sprint in Tahiti.
Outrigger Stansfield also won silver, medalling with fellow local team mates, Kristine Parkinson, Janine Carroll and Robyn Mandaradoni along with two Brisbane members in a combined crew with Far North Queensland (FNQ) in a V12 500m sprint.
Stansfield was the only Australian returning with a golden touch in the elite and club competition at an event dominated by Tahitian competitors where one of the national sports is outrigger paddling.
