The ladies’ club championships concluded on Saturday, while the men played the third round of their championships. Tash Doherty dominated the ladies title, winning all three weeks of the championships and thus adds another club champion title to her belt. Her winning score this week was 91-14-77 and the total of her best two rounds was 173, well ahead of her nearest rival — so congratulations Tash on another great championship. Rhonda Eberle and Ina Hogeboom tied for the handicap championship, both with a score of 155, so well done to them too.
The men’s club championship is shaping up as a close one after Simon Doherty bounced back to win A-grade on Saturday with a fantastic round of 78-14-64, which was a long way ahead of the next best on Saturday. Simon has won two rounds of the championships, however of those who have played all three rounds to date, James Campbell and Ash Sanders lead on 250, with Simon two shots back on 252.
This is looking like an exciting conclusion to the club champion title and that will take place on Saturday week. Contenders will have this week to ponder their situation and hone their skills in the Fitzsimmons Memorial. The B-grade winner on Saturday was Bryce Johnston with a round of 94-24-70 and he has put together a couple of good rounds during the championships too. Ball competition winners were Ash Sanders 70, James Campbell 71, Jeff Newham 73 and Andrew Wood 74. Nearest-the-pins were won by Simon Doherty on the ninth and the jackpot 12th and Craig Doherty on the 14th. The ‘chook shed challenge’ was won by Ash Sanders with 10 points for the four holes.
As mentioned, the club championships have a week’s hiatus for the Fitzsimmons Memorial three-person ambrose this Saturday. Teams can be men, women or mixed and hit-off is from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Barbecue lunch and afternoon tea is included in the $15 per head entry, as are nearest-the-pins and novelty events such as longest and straightest drives. This is always a great day so get your teams organised and make a day of it.
