Women’s golf

By Tatura Guardian

Ladies’ golf started in cool, overcast conditions on Wednesday and was contested by a very good field of players.

The day’s competition was Stroke and Monthly Medal.

It was the first round of the club championships after being washed out last week.

The sponsors for the day were Finny’s and Drummond Golf.

Lyn Fanning had a fantastic round with 89 off the stick, less her 22 handicap, for a nett of 67 to win A-grade and the monthly medal shirt sponsored by Newton’s Parcel Service.

Runner up in A-grade was Jan Coe with 70 nett.

B-grade winner was Lyn Flett with 73 nett, runner-up was Lois Rogers with 74 nett.

Balls down the line were won by Liz Mulcahy with 73, Charlene Duthie, Chris Coleman and Judy Baker all on 74; Terri Wangeman 75, Colleen Johns and Bev Roberts both with 76 nett.

The nine-hole competition winner was Joyce Tavener with 16 points.

Liz Mulcahy won nearest-the-pin on the third for the Blossoms With Love voucher. Nearest-the-pin on the sixth for the Tatura Hot Bread voucher was Terri Wangeman. Francie Mark took the One4One breakfast voucher for nearest-the-pin on the 14th.

Our Division 3 and 4 pennant teams have a bye and are hosting golf on Monday.

Wednesday is Stroke and the second round of the club championships and the silver spoon. It will be sponsored by Tatura Family Butcher. The top four players on each grade will play semi-finals which will be held on Sunday May 19 at a time to be confirmed. The following Sunday, the 26th, the finals for both men and women will be played.
