Tungamah Social Club takes out #5 in the state

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

The Tungamah Social Club has undoubtedly had an amazing twelve months.  From a successful River Run, to a fantastic Anzac Day Commemoration Service.

Add to this purchase of their own cool room and generator through the support of local community groups and their endless fundraising through auctions and raffles.  To cap it all off their ‘Good Friday Appeal’ raised a whopping $34 811.36, for the Royal Children’s Hospital, over $8000 more than the previous year.

This contribution saw the Tungamah Social Club be named in the Top 10 ‘Hotel and Club’ award category for the Good Friday Appeal.

They came in at number five, being beaten by much larger towns and suburbs including Traralgon and Wonthaggi.

This is a phenomenal amount of money for a small town of around 300 people and a Social Club with only 25 members.

Members of the social club attended an awards ceremony at the Commercial Club in Albury on Thursday, June 6 where Anne Randall, director of the Good Friday Appeal presented President Greg Ford and Treasurer Diane Ford with an award. Diane responded on behalf of the social club highlighting what an enormous amount of money was raised in the small rural community, in what has been a tough year for farmers.

Diane also thanked the social club members for their ongoing hard work and efforts, as well as thanking those who support their fundraising throughout the year.  President Greg Ford was quite humbled by the award.

He stated; “We are so fortunate to have such loyal members within the social club, who work tirelessly throughout the year for this worthy cause. In addition to this we are a part of a local community who back us and our ventures.”

The Tungamah Social Club also support other charities and community members in need and have been doing so for over a decade.

They are currently raising money for the Variety Club Children’s Charity.

Tungamah publican Paul Basse and his crew are once again taking the ‘Bat Mobile’ on the Variety Bash and the social club will present Paul and his crew with a donation prior to him leaving on the bash in August.
