On Sunday the remaining 12 finalists from an impressive 30 competitors in the heats lined up for a chance to win the coveted $5000 first prize
Rutherglen talent Boe O’Brien was the eventual winner. The runner-up, Indi Gilmore from Moama received $1000 and dynamic duo, Alana Caldera from Mooroopna and Justin Boschetti from Yarrawonga came third receiving $500.
Mulwala Water Ski Club’s Promotions and Marketing Manager Cathy Randell said it was the club’s biggest ever number of entrants who came from all over the region to do battle.
“This year’s saw some amazing entertainers perform a large range of songs from Chandelier, Eye of the Tiger, Hopelessly Devoted to You plus some fabulous original compositions,” Cathy said.
“The twelve contestants performed two songs each with such high standard of talent making the judging very close.”
The judging panel included Fiona Blick, Leanne Mickleson and Greg Hough who all had a very difficult time selecting the winners.
Because of the high standard of entertainment three extra awards for $100 each were also given. These included; Rising Star won by Raiyan Galvin of Numurkah; Judges Choice by Shantelle Matcham of Rubicon and an Encouragement Award to Toby Mobbs of Thurgoona.
“The talent this year was the best we have seen over the eleven years of hosting this event,” Cathy said.
“The Mulwala Water Ski Club are proud to encourage up and coming entertainers on their quest to be the stars of tomorrow
and look forward to next year’s competition.”
Previous winners of Ski Clubs Got Talent who took home the $5000 in cash include Anthony Lucas who has just signed a deal with Australian Telco, Optus, to license his music to be featured on store playlists around the country. Another winner, Isiah Firebrace, went on to win X-Factor and performed at Eurovision in 2017.
