Due to the delay in reports we will provide an overall coverage of the past months activities at the club.
Club Events: All club events were completed prior to presentation night; this was a great effort from the match committee who were endlessly required to reschedule matches, well done team.
Easter: The Easter Krackerjack tournament was a very successful event with 22 teams on the greens on Saturday and 18 teams on the Sunday.
Considering the range of events available to bowlers over the Easter period, consider this very rewarding for the tournament directors, well done girls.
Presentation Night: The presentation night dinner was held at Club Mulwala on Thursday, April 18. This was a very successful night enjoyed by over 50 members and guests.
Awards were presented to all division winners, with the principal awards of the night.
The Ladies and Men’s open singles champion trophies being presented by Club Mulwala CEO Alan Rowe to ladies champion Kaye Smith and men’s champion Daryl Dighton.
Well done to all bowlers who took part in the club events during the season, congratulations to all winners.
A big thank you to Alan Rowe and his team at Club Mulwala for their continued support of the bowls club, it is greatly appreciated by all our members.
Visiting Bowlers: We are blessed as a club to have so many other bowls clubs regularly visit ours.
We recently had Belmont Bowls Club join us, followed by Greensborough Bowls Club, the 100 VRI bowlers from Victoria and New Zealand, next week Donvale Bowls Club visit once again.
These clubs keep returning to the club for many reasons, they are always made welcome by all members and Club Mulwala staff and they love the conditions our greenkeeper Ged and his assistants, Jason and Barry provide for them and there is always the perfect weather.
AGM: With all that has occurred over recent weeks we also found time to hold our AGM where President Graeme Arnold congratulated the whole bowls group on the success of the season, in Graeme’s words it takes effort from all members to achieve success.
Success could be measured by our record this year of 3 out of 4 teams through to grand finals, two won the day the third just outplayed on the day, as Meat Loaf once said “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad”
However success is more than that this year we had growth in membership, a great year financially and an extremely harmonious feel of camaraderie throughout the club.
Congratulations to the outgoing executive and committee members on a job well done.
All the very best wishes to our new executive and committee members, keep the bowl rolling.
Social: With the winter match team in place social bowls is up and running, unless something else takes precedent, Social Bowls will be held each Tuesday at 12.30pm.
Sheets will be on the notice board well in advance, visitors and single entries are always most welcome.
If you have never played bowls and think you would like to try, come along and have a go.
YMGCR Bowls
We have now reached the time of year when following the AGM our new committees start planning for the next season of bowls.
The weather conditions change dramatically, and the game of bowls is the activity we look forward to each week.
At YMGCR from May 8 until the end of August, all social events will be played as open events.
Iron Jack Invitation Mixed Pairs: An overwhelming successful tournament, with 42 teams representing 37 different clubs from near and far participating in last week’s event.
With the greens at their “unbelievable” best, Greenkeeper Warrick Henderson set the standard for the rest of the weekend.
The food provided by YMGCR catering was very well received.
The pattern continued on Thursday evening at the very social open draw.
Organisers came up with a very novel way to conduct the draw, where players had to show their skill with putting to receive their team number and their program for the tournament.
The Pop-Up shop provided by Shepparton Bowls Shop proved to be a winner and complimented the tournament for locals and visitors. The team from SBS expressed their delight in our facilities and the organisation of their visit.
Thanks to Umpire Gary Fear from St James and local helpers Carolyn Boston, Bob Liddell and Ben Knowles for their work.
The committee wish to thank the following local raffle prize donors:
Showcase Jewellers, Pharmasave Chemists, IGA Supermarket, Nagles Butchery, and Uncle Toby’s. Everyone is looking forward to this event next year.
