The last day of home and away matches for the YMCC B Grade saw the Lakers wrap up a convincing win at Milawa.
Having the Milawa side at 9/69 and the Lakers well poised at 4/184 in reply, the result was possibly inevitable, but cricket is a funny game.
The Lakers could have tidied up the Milawa innings in the first couple of overs but a couple of chances went down.
Although, it only took until the sixth over for Milawa to be all out for 79 with Reece Norman taking the final wicket and finishing with the figures of 9.2 overs 3 maiden 3/18.
Lakers with the first innings points.
With 58 overs remaining to play, the Lakers continued their innings and gave some of the young chargers some time at the crease.
Tom Elliott was superb as he resumed his innings from week 1 and batted the entire day to be unbeaten on 60 runs.
Elliott was patient when he needed to be and also pounced on the loose deliveries.
Batting with his Captain Justin O’Brien, the pair put on 98 runs for the 5th wicket before O’Brien was out for 61.
Jobe Kennedy was there at the end of the day combining with Elliott for the fourth 50+ run partnership of the innings, Kennedy remaining 25 not out.
A great display of patience by the Lakers players as the opposition weren’t entirely focussed on the game at hand.
Final score for the Lakers was a massive 6/339.
By far the highest score for the B Grade side all season.
Although a massive win was had by the Lakers it wasn’t quite enough to get them into the finals.
But a great year was had by all and improvement in all the young players who went through the B Grade side through the year was tremendous.
Hopefully leading to further progression through to the higher grades next season.
Good luck to the A and A Reserve sides this week in their finals campaigns, please get along and support them if and when you can this Saturday and Sunday at Vic Park and Mulwala.
