“I am hoping a bit more money will filter in.I think I have a bit more coming in from the Workers (Echuca Workers Club),” the Echuca Moama Lions Club president said..
“They held raffles on the day and we haven’t seen the total yet. There were a couple places we didn’t get to as well,” he said.
Mr Stewart said he was expecting the figure to be closer to $90,000 when the final count was complete.
He said the Echuca Workers Club was a great supporter of the cause and last year had $2500 from its raffles.
“They also give us a place to count the money and supplied our volunteers with tea, coffee, sandwiches and a few beers.
“They do so much for us every year,’’ Mr Stewart said.
Co-ordinated by the Echuca Moama Lions for almost 30 years, the appeal also involved Bamawm Extenstion CFA, Kiwanis (on their barbecue barge) Echuca Moama SES, along with Echuca Village, Echuca and Moama fire brigades.
“Echuca CFA did the door knock, the SES did the main intersection and others were at the Haverfield intersection. The Moama team was on Perricoota Rd,” he said.
CFA has continued its support for the Good Friday Appeal with members out in force raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The Victorian community opened their hearts once again this year, helping CFA raise an incredible $1,440,225.
After a difficult two years with a heavy reliance on online fundraising, CFA volunteers from across the entire state were elated to hit the streets in their local communities, rattling tins and collecting money.
Brigades that set up a Virtual Tin Shake also raised a total of $38,122 online.
CFA has been a major fundraiser for the Good Friday Appeal for the past 71 years and to date members have raised more than $36 million since 1951.
The overall tally for the Good Friday Appeal in 2022 was a record-breaking $22,328,154.
CFA acting chief officer Rohan Luke congratulated all involved in this year’s appeal.
“CFA members already give up their time to protect the lives of Victorians through their brigades, and it’s a credit to their community-mindedness that they also take time out to fundraise for such a great cause.
“Congratulations to all our CFA volunteers involved, it was an amazing effort and you and your communities should be proud. It’s an honour that CFA continues to contribute in providing world-class care to our kids,” he said.
