One injured, one arrested after Hume Crash

A serious crash on the Hume Fwy near Benalla has led to one man's arrest with another flown to hospital with head injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a 22-year-old man following the crash, which occurred early Sunday morning.

It is alleged an Isuzu truck and car collided near the Samaria Rd overpass, about 12.30am.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 70s, was airlifted to Melbourne with life-threatening head injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old Mill Park Man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

He was arrested about 11.30am and is assisting investigators with their enquiries.

The Hume Fwy southbound was closed until about 1.30pm Sunday, with cars diverted through Benalla.

It has since been re-opened.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses who stopped at the crash scene to speak to police.

Investigators would also like to speak to anyone with dash cam footage that was travelling along the Hume Freeway in the Benalla area prior to the collision.
