The Australian Rail Track Corporation has completed scheduled maintenance along the north-east line, which included significant work in and around Benalla.
An ARTC spokesperson thanked the community for its patience during the upgrades.
"ARTC would like to thank the community for its patience while these important works were delivered and in particularly, we would also like to apologise for the impact on V/Line customers across Monday evening and Tuesday," the spokesperson said.
V/Line V Late
The maintenance affected most of the line with more than 300 workers at 10 sites.
Key works completed include:
* installation of crossovers at Violet Town and Longwood;
* 33 km of tamping between Benalla and Albury;
* commissioning of a new siding at Benalla;
* level crossing renewal at Escrites Rd, Heathcote Junction; and
* Melbourne metro works involving mudhole removal, turnout renewals at West Footscray, Sims Rd bridge works and improving the level crossing at Dock Link Rd, West Melbourne.
