The Morrison Government, through the ARTC and Inland Rail project team, are paying attention to the Benalla community.
• The ARTC is undertaking a further review of the Benalla rail precinct in response to conversation with BOBCAR in September.
• The ARTC and Inland Rail project team can only make changes to the Benalla station that fall within their scope and budget.
Over the last 18 months, the ARTC on behalf of the Morrison Government has undertaken significant consultation with stakeholders to understand local needs and assess options in Benalla, including the option of relocating the rail line.
Federal Government push forward with Benalla Station alterations despite community outrage
The ARTC and Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s initial assessment identified that relocating the rail line would require significant works which are outside the scope and budget of the Inland Rail project.
Since Senator Hume’s initial letter was sent to Mr Kelly and BOBCAR, it has been clarified that following representation from BOBCAR in early September, the ARTC is undertaking a further review of the options in Benalla, including further assessment of the design concept put forward by BOBCAR.
Community group fighting against inland rail proposals
Throughout this process it is important to note that, as with other sites along the corridor, it is unlikely the ARTC and department will be in a position to deliver everything the community is asking for.
However, it has been made eminently clear that the ARTC and the department, acting on behalf of the Morrison Government, are committed to understanding the communities’ aspirations for the precinct as a whole, and to delivering a solution now that meets local requirements as best we can within our scope and budget, that have potential to service the site in future.
