Moorngag Mower Mania returns this Saturday offering fast-paced action for all to enjoy - or even take part in.
Originally scheduled as a Benalla Festival event, Mower Mania was postponed because of forecast rain, which threatened to make the track too dangerous to use.
The decision was made to move the races to the Australia Day weekend, and organisers have taken the opportunity to make it a twilight event.
Event coordinator Andrew Lavis said if you were looking for action and entertainment for the whole family, the Moorngag Mower Mania was the place to head for on Saturday afternoon.
“Races will commencing about 2.30 pm with heats running throughout the afternoon and the finals to be run after the evening meal break,” Mr Lavis said.
“The evening will conclude with presentations to competitors.
“In addition, there will be a large model train... display that has been brought up from Melbourne.
“That will be set up in the hall and is open from 10 am.
As well as the large display there will be another local model train display replicating the Tatong rail connection.
“These displays are outstanding and will appeal to a very wide audience for the authenticity and detail of the models,” Mr Lavis said.
“The interest in this year’s event has been enormous and with the weather forecast being favourable, (I'm) looking forward to a huge day of racing activity and highlights.
“One of the new initiatives has been the inclusion of a bus service from Benalla, which has been generously offered by Benalla Bus Lines.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Benalla Bus Lines for that.
“And we have local state member Steph Ryan coming along from 2.30 to 4 pm. She actually had a go last year and we hope to see her on the track again.”
The free bus service will depart from the front of the Benalla Botanical Gardens at 2 pm running to Moorngag and will return 15 minutes after the last race.
As seats will be limited, Mr Lavis has asked that those interested in using the bus to phone Benalla Bus Lines on 5762 6566 to reserve a seat.
Catering at this year’s event will include a barbecue lunch, bar, sandwiches, cakes and slices, an on-site coffee van and ice-cream van.
The evening meal will include loaded baked potatoes and a barbecue.
Entry to Mower Mania is just a gold coin donation and prices for food and drinks vary.
