Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp will today announce a $6 million allocation to build the game-changing new centre, set to completely overhaul chemotherapy and dialysis services at Echuca Regional Health (ERH).
Design and architectural work will kick off soon for the dedicated facility thanks to the Labor Government spend, which will increase comfort for patents and a more welcoming environment for staff.
The centre will include 10 treatment bays and offer the latest wellness programs to help improve the health and wellbeing of cancer patients – both during treatment and recovery.
Plus locals will benefit from improved access to consultations from haematologists, medical oncologists, nephrologists and radiation oncologists, all under the one roof.
ERH board president John Quirk has welcomed the allocation, which will see more than 1200 patients benefit from superior care each year.
‘‘We appreciate the support of the Victorian Government to fund a cancer centre for Echuca,’’ he said.
‘‘The facility will give patients the best care in a wonderful new facility.’’
Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos said the facility would be a ‘‘game-changer’’ for patients in their toughest fight.
‘‘It will mean patients can get the world-class treatment they need at home, without having to travel long distances,’’ she said.
The state government has also provided $1.14 million from the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund for new operating theatre equipment.
