There will be two Junior Ranger activities at Cobram Regional Park during the holidays, including an All Fired Up activity and a Minibeast Discovery activity.
The All Fire Up activity is on Monday, September 30, from 2.30 pm. The hour-long sessions will teach children about the role rangers play in fighting bushfires and help them gain an insight to how fires are planned for and managed in national parks. Junior Rangers will explore the adaptions of native flora and fauna to deal with fire and how the bush recovers after a bush fire.
The Minibeast Discovery activity is on Wednesday, October 2, from 10.30 am to 11.30 am and children will learn about the some of the tiny critters they live in and around the Murray River and what they mean to the environment.
Both activities are suitable for children aged 6 to 12, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. The activities are free, but bookings are essential.
If you cannot make it to a ranger-hosted activity, there is also a Spring Bioblitz taking place on October 3 and 4. The Bioblitz is a community-driven, self-guided online nature survey.
Grab a camera or smartphone and head into one of Parks Victoria’s parks to record the plants and animals you encounter. By taking part in the Bioblitz, families will help scientists better understand the amazing array of life in Victoria’s parks. Visit juniorrangers.com.au to find out how.
Parks Victoria education and interpretation officer James Adams said Bioblitz would help create a connection between children and nature.
“The spring Bioblitz is all about fostering kids’ natural enthusiasm for discovery by providing a fun, hands-on opportunity to contribute to nature conservation,” he said.
“The data collected will be used by Parks Victoria’s science team to better understand the amazing diversity of life within our parks which will help us protect it.”
