Aside from greyhounds, trots and harness racing - as well as golf - sporting ventures are few and far between as the population is encouraged to stay home in order to help lessen the spread of the virus.
The Picola District Football Netball League confirmed the postponement of the start of its season on the weekend.
Following a meeting of the PDFNL board last Friday, the league has opted to postpone all football and netball competitions until May 2.
In a statement released on Sunday, the PDFNL addressed the reasoning for postponing the season and revealed that the planned May 2 start-date could be changed again if the Covid-19 epidemic deteriorated further.
“The league will continue to correspond with the various authorities and re-convene by April 17 to review and/or confirm this commencement date, subject to the status of the Covid-19 pandemic,” the statement read.
“The decision has been made after ongoing consultation with the office of federal and state ministers, Netball Victoria, Netball Australia, AFL, AFLGM, PDFNL clubs and in consideration of the ever changing Federal Government requirements.
“The PDFNL advises all of its clubs to remain aware and vigilant of current federal and state government requirements regarding gatherings.
'Providing support to PDFNL members along with the many commercial partners who continue to support the PDFNL community is of high priority, during these unprecedented times.”
Fellow local leagues - Goulburn Valley, Kyabram District, Murray and Northern Country Women's - have all announced seasons have been postponed to May 31.
All Cobram Roar activities have also been put on hold, in line with Football Federation Victoria and Football Australia recommendations.
“We regret to announce that ALL club activities are postponed in line with Football Australia, FFV and AWFA (Albury-Wodonga Football Association) directives,” the club posted on its Facebook page.
“This includes training for all age groups.
“This is beyond our control and appreciate your support and understanding.
“We will keep you updated as information comes to hand.
“Stay safe and healthy.”
Lawn bowls, basketball, tennis and a myriad of other sports have also been affected.
This includes indoor sporting venues, which have been closed by the state and federal governments.
