The youth council comprises of a group of young people who represent youth across the shire. It provides a forum to express their views, advise council on youth-related issues, and help organise youth driven and focused events and activities.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the Federation Youth Council began in 2018 and have delivered a number of projects to make Federation Council a better place for young people.
“Throughout the 2020/21 period, Federation’s youth councillors coordinated a youth driven Facebook page, created social media content, finalized the Memorial Plaza as a bright shared space, held Mulwala’s first Colour run, hosted a shop local Christmas initiative, a learn to skate program in Howlong and much more,” he said.
“The youth council have represented our young people on important issues such as Council’s Community Strategic Plan and steering communities on major projects such as the pool and skate park.
“Our current youth council are outstanding young citizens and I commend them for the great work they have done. We are very blessed to have a great group of passionate youth driving positive change for the betterment of our communities.”
Federation Council encourages youth from all Federation Council towns and villages alike between the ages of 15 – 25 to nominate themselves to be part of the exciting change.
Mayor Bourke said anyone who is creative, a team player, or wants to bring their visions for the community to life is encouraged to come forward.
“Anyone who has an idea, loves content creation, enjoys organising events or who is passionate about making change should nominate,” he said.
“The Federation Youth Council is a way to have a say about your experiences as a young person, and topics and issues that you are passionate about in your community. You might even become our 2021/2022 Youth Mayor.”
