Deniliquin Athletic Club is offering a trial day to give potential new members a chance to trial athletics..

The club's ‘come and try’ day will be held from 1pm on Sunday, August 18, with a barbecue lunch being held before the day of track and field events.

Athletic Club president Leanne Mulham said the day will also cater for the club's return athletes, giving all a chance to practice and finalise the registration process.

"With our official season starting on Friday, August 23 we encourage athletes to register early," she said.

"Athletes can pick up their age patch, registration number or new uniforms at our registration session at Rotary Park on Saturday (tomorrow) or at the trialist day on the come and try day.

"Our fees for this season are $95 per athlete and we are a registered Active Kids provider so you can enter your voucher number when you register online."

Athletes wishing to trial Deniliquin Athletics we need to go online and enter their details or complete a trialist form on the Deniliquin Little Athletics Facebook page.

Returning members or those who already know they want to register for Deniliquin Little Athletics, can register online at

The club will have a new addition to their season this year, running a specialist program for younger members called Tiny Tots on Track.

"The program focuses on developing the fundamental movement skills," Mulham said.

"The aim is to provide fun activities, non-competitive and keeping our young members engaged and active.

"As these are shorter session we have reduced the registration fee to $80 for these athletes."

To be eligible for end of season awards athletes must be fully registered for the official season start on Friday, August 23.

Age group champions are determined by points they receive for attendance and improving their own personal best times and distances.

The club also provides opportunities for those athletes who enjoy competing against their peers and experience a carnival atmosphere.

From October, every week one of the other region clubs will host an athletic carnival.

This season's Deniliquin carnival will be a twilight carnival held on Saturday, November 9, with over 150 other athletes from other clubs joining local club members for friendly competition.

The Zone carnival this season will be held in Griffith on December 7, with those who qualify for the Regional carnival travelling to Lake Illawarra in mid February 2020.

Mulham said that the multi class athletes also have events at these carnivals and have similar opportunities to compete.

"For this reason Deniliquin Athletics is suited to every athlete no matter what their ability.

"We also want to encourage our teenage athletes to stay with the club so we will be giving them more event selection each week so they have more opportunity to compete in their preferred events.

"Deniliquin Athletics is a great family atmosphere where the whole family can come along and have fun, make new friends, learn new skills and be involved in healthy activities.

"The club's emphasis is on participation and personal improvement.

"We have fantastic equipment and facilities at the Rams Oval and dedicate committee who work hard to ensure all our athletes get the most out of Deniliquin Athletics.

"Parents do need to get involved each week however and we have many roles that need to be filled each week for our Friday nights to run smoothly."
