Deniliquin Rovers’ Under 15s side has sent a warning shot to its Picola & District League counterparts with a stirring performance in a practice match against Hay on Saturday.
The Roos put on a masterclass in a ‘six-quarter’ game against the Lions, scoring a 38 to 2 win.
Coach Nat Sampson said it was a well-rounded performance in all areas of the court which saw her side score such a comprehensive victory.
‘‘The girls were nervous to begin with, but they ended up doing a fantastic job,’’ she said.
‘‘We were quite strong in our attacking half with good shooting from Kate Westcott and Shané Bothma.
‘‘The midcourt flowed nicely as well. Abby Whitehorn, Abbie Blake and Sienna Jenkins kept the ball moving beautifully throughout the game.
‘‘Clearly the defence was strong, they didn’t allow too many scoring opportunities.
‘‘We had a few girls swapping through defence with Erika Martin, Matilda Glowrey, Elena Mulham and Georgia McCulloch all having terrific games.’’
The Rovers will be in action again this weekend, with the Picola & District Netball League season kicking off on Saturday.
While their opponent is not yet known, with the fixture being announced tomorrow, Sampson is confident her side will get off to a strong start after seeing their performance.
‘‘The girls have been hanging for an actual game of netball, and Saturday provided us with that opportunity,’’ Sampson said.
‘‘If we can put forward similar performances to what we did against Hay we should be able to compete well against the other teams in the comp.’’
